Cream of Wheat Recipe or Mannaya Kasha (Манная Каша)

Mannaya Kasha, Cream of Wheat, Semolina or Farina is my favorite childhood breakfast and is staple on every Slavic table – Super easy to make, served with butter, jam, brown sugar or fresh fruit. 


3 cups milk

1/2 cup uncooked cream of wheat cereal, semolina or mannaya krupa

1 teaspoon butter

Sugar to taste

Pinch of salt



Pour the milk into a medium saucepan and bring up to a boil.

Gradually add the semolina into the hot milk, while whisking quickly. If you add the semolina too quickly, it will clump up into small balls. 

Cook for 1-2 minutes or until the cereal thickens.

Add the butter, salt and sugar to taste and serve warm with some butter, brown sugar, fresh fruit or your favorite jam.
