Kompot (Compot) is a Russian drink made of water, fruit and sugar. In winter time it gets spiced up with Cinnamon, Nutmeg and other spices. It is really easy to make at home and you can create unique versions with special fruits to taste. Here is my winter version of Kompot recipe for you to try at home. A combination of apples, pear and cinnamon makes tasty comforting homemade winter beverage. Serve with additional cinnamon sticks for stirring, if desired.
Ingredients:
4 Pears
4 Apples
1 Gallon water
1/2 – 3/4 cup sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
Direction:
Bring water to a boil in a large pot. Quarter the apples and pears (do not peel). Add fruits and cinnamon sticks to the water and let simmer for 5 minutes. Add 1/2 cup sugar mix well and simmer for another 5 minutes. Taste and adjust the sweetness.
This kompot can be served either warm or cold, with fruits in it or without. To have kompot without fruits, just strain it through a fine mesh sieve.
I enjoy my cup of Kompot warm with additional cinnamon stick for stirring while I am sitting next to the fireplace.
Enjoy!!!
